Tao 3:04 - The Girl
It was a bright summer day. There was not a cloud in the sky. She was looking out through the window; the little girl with ribbons on her hair.
“It is beautiful outside. Isn’t it?” she asked the Tao.
“Yes, it is,” said the Tao, “Just as beautiful as it is inside here.”
“No, it is not,” she said, “You are lying. It is dark in here, in this room. Outside, it is beautiful. Look at the bright sunshine out there.”
She paused. “Why can’t I go outside?” she asked in a soft, almost pleading voice.
“You can,” said the Tao, “Once you get better.”
“I will get better soon. Won’t I?”
“You will. You will. Soon,” said the Tao. Then, softly, under his breath: “I am hoping so…”
It was a bright summer day. But the Tao knew that the clouds would be rolling in from the west. It was going to rain.
