Tao 3:07 - Freedom
So after the tricolor has fluttered in the post-monsoon breeze, after the fireworks had died down, the fearless leaders had bandied rhetoric, and the love of the country had seen its yearly peak, the Tao sat down with his students.
“What kind of freedom do you value most?” he asked.
“Freedom from control,” said one student, “I hate to be told what to do, and how to do it.”
“Freedom from people,” said another, “I prefer being alone.”
“Freedom from politicians,” said yet another, “They are just a bunch of good-for-nothing scumbags.”
“Freedom from slavery,” said the Ph.D. student.
“Good ideas, all,” said the Tao, “I may not be able to help you much with those. But there is a different kind of freedom that you will learn about in today’s lesson.”
“What is that?”
“Freedom of thought,” said the Tao.
